How to Deal with Dog Aggression

Dog aggression is the problem that should put you into thinking. Most of the times, this behavior is a sign that something goes wrong with the life of your beloved pet, not to mention that it requires immediate attention before it can turn into something more serious for the people around you.

It is important at this point to remark that there are several perspectives from which dog aggression can be considered a problem:

* One perspective comes from the health side. When your dog manifests aggression you can have it taken to the vet to make sure that this is not a medical problem. Most of the times dogs become aggressive when there is something physically wrong with them. It is your dog's way of communicating to you that it suffers from a sickness that creates discomfort. Once they get the treatment, this aggression will stop.

* The second perspective comes from the behavior side. If there isn't any health related problem, aggression can be generated by other factors that have to a do a lot with their behavior. However, it is important to take a good look at your dog and notice when these aggression episodes occur.

It may happen that these ones are manifested when somebody reaches for its food when it is eating. Dogs tend to be very possessive with their things, foods included, so they can become aggressive when they feel that their food is touched by somebody else. It is their way of showing dominance as well. Another factor can be their feeling of being threatened.

When this aggression manifests as a result of the above mentioned factors, then you need to have your dog brought over to some training sessions to have the trainer solve the problem. Until then, just say to your dog 'stop' when manifesting aggression, bit watch out at the way you say it. You shouldn't sound menacingly, otherwise your word will do only more harm than good.
